About Ranthambore National Park

 

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest National Park in the World. The National park is located in  Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district, which is 138 km from Jaipur (by train) and 180 km by Road, which is also the nearest airport. Kota is the another convenient Station as all the train stops at Kota which is 110 kms from Ranthambhore.

 

The Ranthambhore was one of the first nine wild life areas selected to be Project Tiger Reserves. Looking at the unique ecological significances of the area it was notified a National Park in the year 1980. In the Year 1984 the adjoining area were elevated to the status of the sanctuaries whereby two sanctuaries were notified – The Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary (127.6 sq. kms) and the Keladevi Sanctuary (674 sq. kms) . To maintain a viable gene pool the adjoining areas, including Keladevi have been brought under the protective umbrella of the project tiger.

The total area of the forest blocks managed under the project tiger Ranthambhore is 1334.64 sq. kms.

 

Ranthambhore has become famous for its tigers and their various activities of life which could be witnessed by human beings. Over the year the tigers of this reserve and for that matter all other animals have developed a confidence towards the visitor in vehicles. This is more notable in the areas of the tourism zone. The animals do not fear the visitor’s vehicles and flee away. Rather they carry on their natural activities, tiger also behave in this manner and people have been able to witness the mother tigresses with small cubs; tigers stalking their prey animals, tigers actually hunting. In this reserve visitors have seen the various aspects of behaviors. They are a very elusive animal that is their way of life and secret of survival.
